Asym derby boot | reverse bison stain
The Asym Derby Boot is a considered study in quiet asymmetry — a silhouette that reads as both resolute and slightly unexpected, with a lace-up opening that sits deliberately off-centre.
The upper is cut from reverse bison, a thick, full-grain hide presented grain-side in, exposing a matte, slightly napped surface with a depth of colour that shifts as the leather wears and flexes. Bison is a notably dense hide, resistant to scuffing and slow to crease, and in this stain finish it will develop a subdued patina over time without ever becoming showy.
Constructed using the Blake stitch method, the boot sits close to the foot with a lean profile. The sole is Thomas Ware chestnut tanned leather — a historically regarded English tannery whose vegetable-tanned bends remain a benchmark for sole leather. Each pair is made by hand at Andrew McDonald's workshop in The Strand Arcade, Sydney.
