Derby Boot | Seaweed cordovan

The Derby Boot in seaweed cordovan is a working boot stripped to its essentials — a clean open-lacing silhouette with the quiet depth that only shell cordovan can carry.

The upper is cut from shell cordovan in a washed seaweed tone: a muted, organic green that shifts between grey and moss depending on the light. Shell cordovan is a dense, non-porous leather taken from the fibrous flat muscle beneath the rump of the horse. It does not crease in the way calf does — instead it rolls, developing a characteristic ripple with wear. The colour will deepen and clarify over years of use, rewarding polish and patience in equal measure.

Constructed using the Blake stitch method, which keeps the profile lean and the footbed close to the ground, the boot is finished with a chestnut-tanned double leather sole and stacked heel. All lining, stiffeners, and sole components are leather throughout. Each pair is made by hand at Andrew McDonald's workroom at The Strand Arcade, Sydney.
