Half boot blind lace | decoupage on cordovan
A blind-laced half boot of quiet authority — clean lines from collar to toe, the lacing hidden beneath a smooth placket that keeps the silhouette unbroken and composed.
The upper is shell cordovan dressed in a decoupage of craft paper, laid over a chocolate base. Cordovan is a dense, non-porous horsehide prized for its resistance to creasing and its slow, deep patina; the decoupage layer adds surface variation that shifts with the light, and because it is applied by hand, no two pairs will read exactly the same. All linings and stiffeners are leather, and the sole is chestnut-tanned double leather — materials chosen to move and age alongside the upper over years of wear.
The boot is Blake stitched — a direct through-stitch that keeps the sole profile lean and close to the foot — and finished on the bench at Andrew McDonald's workshop in the Strand Arcade, Sydney. A rubber top piece can be added to the leather sole for an additional $60.
