Zip Back Boot | decoupage newsprint
A dress boot that refuses to be ordinary. Newsprint decoupage laid over chocolate shell cordovan gives each pair a surface that is both archival and alive — no two boots carry the same text, the same column break, the same fragment of headline.
The upper is shell cordovan finished with a decoupage of genuine newsprint, sealed beneath the leather's natural lustre. Shell cordovan is dense, non-porous horsehide from the hindquarter, prized for its resistance to creasing and its slow, deep burnish over years of wear. The chocolate base reads through the print in shadow and at edges, grounding what could be novelty in something altogether more considered. Lining, insole, heel, and double sole are all leather, English chestnut tanned. The zip is a multicoloured YKK Excella with brass teeth — a maker's detail rather than a shortcut.
Constructed using the Blake stitch method, which produces a lean profile and close-cut sole that suits the boot's upright character. Made by hand in Sydney, available to view and discuss at Andrew McDonald's workshop at The Strand Arcade. A rubber top piece can be added to the leather sole for $60.
